Residential Elevators Recalls Home Elevators Due to Child Entrapment Hazard
(Recall Alert)

What’s the hazard?

Young children can become entrapped in the space between the exterior landing (hoistway) door and the interior elevator car door or gate if there is a hazardous gap and suffer serious injuries or death when the elevator is called to another floor.

What should I do?

  1. Residential Elevator Customers should have received an email directing you to this page. The email will pre-load all of your contact information below.

    • If you did not receive an email and have a Residential Elevators, Inc. brand home elevator, you may also complete the form on this page.

  2. If you have young children in your home (or if your home is visited by or rented to families with young children), you should immediately disable the elevator or block young children’s access to the elevator until the issue is addressed. Young children should never be allowed to use an elevator unattended or to play in or near an elevator.

If you do not have young children in your home (or if your home is not visited by or rented to families with young children), you may continue to operate your elevator until space guards are installed. We urge you to promptly remedy any gaps that may exist behind your landing doors.

  3. Read below for instructions on how to measure for space guards to correct any hazardous gap.

  4. Conduct measurements and enter measurements in the fields provided. Be sure to note the floor on which you conduct the measurements

  5. Space guards will be provided free of charge and assistance with space guard installation will be provided upon request. Space guards will be custom-sized and labeled for each floor of your home elevator
